Ra-Syn is a French speaker rapper, German singer-songwriter from Cameroon. He founded the rap group U.M.A.R. C.V.M with his friends in Yaoundé in 1992. He began his solo career in 2001 with the album "Born under a tree", (Album of the Week on Radio France International with Claudy Siar) and awarded best rap album in Cameroon.
Ra-Syn releases most anticipated single 'La Mer' after his friend and colleague Eric Vincenzini went on holiday to the Côte d'Azur in France in 2016 and told him that he couldn't get the melody of "La Mer" (Charles Trenet) out of his head. At that time they both still had the terrible pictures of the refugee crisis 2015/2016 in front of their eyes.
The EU relied on isolation and there were more and more victims at sea in this humanitarian crisis. A little boy is lying on the beach, his face in the sand, his arms stretched back, his red T-shirt soaked through. The boy is dead. This is one of several shocking photos that are currently circulating around the world. They show a drowned refugee child washed up on a beach in Bodrum, Turkey. Another picture shows a policeman carefully carrying the lifeless body off the beach.
During a joint exploratory expedition in Senegal to find out about the situation on the ground, Ra-Syn and his friend were able to delve deep into the country's cultural scene. In this environment, the creative process was initiated to make "La Mer" into a version of its own and to draw attention to the catastrophic conditions that continue to this day. Ra-Syn thought it was important to him not to stand there with a raised forefinger, but simply to tell a story that emphasizes the motives. Poverty and dreams of people who see no way out and leave their homes, no matter what it costs.
The versions of the song in the Cologne studio Golden Factory (Aras Yadegari) were rounded off by the gifted jazz trumpeter Karz von Bonin and Stefan Plassmann (backing vocals).
